VfL Wolfsburg secured their fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga this season after defeating Hertha BSC by a single goal on Sunday evening. The match was played at the Volkswagen Arena and saw VfL Wolfsburg take control from the beginning.
The match started off with a flurry of attacking play as both teams looked to establish themselves early. However, it wasn't until the 27th minute that VfL Wolfsburg managed to break through and take the lead through a well-taken goal from Enner Valencia. The Colombian forward beat his marker and fired home from close range, giving his team the advantage they needed.
Hertha BSC responded quickly though, and despite being behind for most of the game, they managed to level things up before half-time thanks to a stunning strike from the penalty spot. The equaliser came courtesy of a penalty awarded to the visitors after a foul on Enner Valencia. It was a tough blow for VfL Wolfsburg but they refused to give up and fought back bravely.
In the second half, VfL Wolfsburg continued to press and create chances, but it was not until the 85th minute that they finally sealed the victory. Another fine performance from Enner Valencia, this time assisted by Kevin Volland, found the back of the net to secure VfL Wolfsburg's fourth-place finish for another season.
Overall, it was a great performance from VfL Wolfsburg who have now qualified for next season's Europa League. The result was a testament to the hard work and determination shown by all the players throughout the season. It will be interesting to see how the club performs under new manager Peter Stöger next term, but for now, VfL Wolfsburg can look forward to a successful end to their campaign.
