Le Douaron scored twice in the opening half to lead Brest to a 2-1 victory over Nantes in their first game of the season on Saturday night at the Stade de France.

The win was Brest's second straight and followed their impressive win over Lorient last weekend. "We've had a lot of time off," said Brest manager Jean-Louis Toulalan, who has been under pressure for several months after losing his team to relegation just three weeks ago.

Nantes were given a boost when they added another goal in the second half through a penalty from midfielder Antoine Griezmann. The French champions have been struggling with injuries this season and have struggled to score goals since the start of the campaign.

Toulalan praised his players for their resilience and commitment to the cause. "It's not easy being down by two points but we're trying our best to stay up," he said. "It's important to keep fighting and we'll see what happens."

Brest will face Lyon in their next match on Sunday afternoon. They need to secure a point to avoid relegation and gain some momentum heading into the break. "We know that it's difficult but we have to be realistic about the situation," said Toulalan.

In the other match of the day, Olympique Lyonnais drew 1-1 with Nice, while Saint-Etienne also played out a draw against Paris Saint-Germain.
